Multiple Sclerosis Diet
MS Diet
More than just a diet, a Multiple Sclerosis Diet may well be a critical component of a cure. It’s become a life style for me. Diet is probably a key component to ones overall health regardless of what ailment you may have. Unfortunately the health system here the US is more focused on treating an illness versus avoiding it all together. Now I know that many illnesses may not be avoidable but it seems strange to me that most cases on MS occur in westernized cultures. It’s interesting that emerging countries have a lower rate of the disease. Western medicine chooses to ignore diet as a possible cause even though there appears to be evidence that runs counter to this notion.
Reducing saturated fat, minimizing dairy and consuming more sea food with Omega 3 fatty acid seems to help improve the overall state of being for individuals with MS. This “diet driven approach” my help manage many diseases or chronic conditions that we as humans face. At the end of the day, it may all comes back to the old saying, “You Are What You Eat.” Eating well may many living well, regardless of the state of your disease.
There are now clinical trials underway that are trying to determine how or if dietary changes can influence the course of the disease. My personal experience of choosing more natural whole food and lower fat products leads me to believe that the right MS diet can move you closer to total body wellness.
With regard to my diet, I have also added what I refer to as MS Supplements that help with inflammation. Supplements such as, Turmeric, Alpha Lipoic Acid and the super antioxidant, Astaxanthin, seem to have slowed the progression my disease to a crawl.
I remember mentioning this Supplement regimen to my neurologist and I could sense that he was just being polite as he smiled and nodded. I have an excellent neurologist but I recognize that the pharmaceutical industry drive our medical system and the first answer to almost any problem will likely include prescription medications. It doesn’t matter that a change in diet may greatly improve your situation.
Simple things like fruits, vegetables, less fat, less dairy; seafood (Omega 3) and more sunlight (vitamin D3) may radical change your life for the better. I’m not knocking pharmaceutical medication, I’m just asking, are they always going to used as the first line of defense or are they even the best way to approach MS or any other disease.
I was always taught that the best defense is a great offense. I believe that we were create/evolved to consume what nature provides. When we get to smart for our on good (i.e., genetic modification of foods, antibodies in the feed for live stock, hormones, carcinogens, unnecessarily pollutants used to drive profits), our bodies reject us…maybe for our own good. For me this disease has been a awake up call, similar to a heart attack or a stroke. Either I do things differently or be willing to face the consequences. From what I’ve seen they’re not pretty.
While searching for something that would address my physical and cognitive issues, I found the book, I found the book, How to Reverse MS Now! The book takes an all natural holistic approach to treating Multiple sclerosis. It’s definitely worth your consideration if you are truly interested in regaining control of your life instead of the disease or Big Pharma controlling it for you.
I am not a physician nor am I involved in the medical field. What I’ve presented is learning that I’ve acquired that has helped me in controlling my symptoms of MS. Before undertaking any diet or change in your fitness regime, it is advised that you seek counsel your physician.
